How it works
Who does what
Three steps that make it clear what you arrange and what we do.

You apply
Apply to your health insurer (zorgverzekeraar) for the transport in advance. They will assess whether you are entitled to it.
- 2
We drive
You call us with the date, the time and the address of the healthcare facility. We arrange the car and the driver.

You claim
You submit the claim to your insurer yourself. Bear in mind that there is a statutory personal contribution (eigen bijdrage) each calendar year.

Our drivers
Our drivers have received training tailored to this kind of transport. They help you in and out of the car, will walk you to the reception desk if you wish, and wait if that has been agreed.
To any hospital in the Netherlands
We drive to any hospital in the Netherlands — not just those in the region. If you need treatment at a centre further away, we will take you there and pick you up again.
The option of a regular driver
If it is a journey you make regularly, for dialysis or radiotherapy for example, you can have a regular driver. That saves explaining everything again each time, and you know who will be at your door.

What is seated patient transport?
Seated patient transport (zittend ziekenvervoer) is transport for people who can remain seated during the journey but cannot travel independently by public transport. That may be because of your health, because you have difficulty walking, or because you are too tired after treatment.
Typical uses include:
- visits to the hospital or a specialist
- appointments with your GP, physiotherapist or another healthcare provider
- journeys to the midwife or a care facility
- recurring transport for clients of a local council (gemeente) or an institution
Reimbursement
When does your health insurer cover the journey?
Whether your journey is covered is decided by your health insurer — not by us. Under basic health insurance (basisverzekering), seated patient transport is covered if one of these six situations applies to you.
- You are having kidney dialysis
- You are receiving oncology treatment with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunotherapy
- You cannot travel without assistance because of a visual impairment
- Your child receives intensive paediatric care (intensieve kindzorg) and transport to a medical day-care centre for children is medically necessary
- You need long-term transport for the treatment of an illness or condition
- Over twelve months, your one-way journeys from home to the healthcare facility add up to more than 1,000 kilometres (the hardship clause)
Since 1 January 2019, travel costs for consultations, examinations and check-ups have also been covered, if these are needed for the treatment.
These rules come from the Besluit zorgverzekering, the Dutch Health Insurance Decree. Your health insurer assesses the application; we provide the transport. Not sure whether your journey qualifies? Feel free to call us and we will help you think it through.

Frequently asked questions about patient transport
Will my journey be covered?
That is for your health insurer to decide, not us. Under basic health insurance, seated patient transport is covered in cases such as kidney dialysis, oncology treatment, a visual impairment, intensive paediatric care, long-term transport, or more than 1,000 kilometres in twelve months. Apply to your insurer in advance.
Do I have to submit the claim myself?
Yes. We provide the journey; you arrange the claim with your insurer. We do not submit anything on your behalf.
Is there a personal contribution?
Yes, a statutory personal contribution (eigen bijdrage) per calendar year. The amount is set each year; your health insurer can tell you what it is.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. Let us know when you book that someone will be travelling with you, and we will take that into account.
Do you drive to any hospital?
To any hospital in the Netherlands, not just in the region. If you need treatment at a centre further away, we will take you there and pick you up again.
Can I have the same driver every time?
For recurring journeys, such as dialysis or radiotherapy, you can have a regular driver. That saves explaining everything again each time.
Do you wait during the treatment?
If that has been agreed in advance, we will wait. When you book, let us know roughly how long the appointment will take.
Do you also provide wheelchair transport?
No. We provide seated patient transport: transport for people who can remain seated during the journey. For wheelchair transport you will need to use another company. A folded wheelchair can go in the boot, though; please mention it when you book.
